Rocky Branch & Central Walnut Creek Watershed Study
July 20th, 2023
The city of Raleigh is doing a study of the Rocky Branch Watershed and the adjacent portion of the Walnut Creek Watershed located in southern downtown Raleigh. The goal is to identify ways to improve the watershed by:
Reducing flooding impacts
Renewing stormwater pipes and infrastructure that is in poor condition
Improving water quality
Repairing streambanks
Provide your feedback and observations on stormwater issues and concerns with our Rocky Branch and Walnut Watersheds Study Survey and view the live results.
On July 20th, 2023, the survey will end and a public meeting will be held at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center at 4 pm.
Public Input on Wake BRT
The City is looking for public feedback on the 3 different types of public art that is being created for the New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Stops. All stops will have 3 different types of artwork.
Glass artwork has different artists for a variety of stops. While there are 19 bus stops in all, several are the east and westbound stops at opposite sides of the block. The Concrete and Railing Artists will be the same for all of the stops.
To help the artwork be more meaningful to riders, the Public Art department hired historians to share the history of the New Bern Avenue corridor with the artists. In November, Octavia Rainey gave a detailed tour of the corridor with the artists that had been chosen for the project. I was fortunate enough to be able to write the histories for each of the stops. (As you know, I love history and legacy and this was not only a trip down memory lane, but also the opportunity to learn more about our city and its history!)
This link will take you to the page with 3 different boxes.

Click on Participate to hear the artist describe their process and show the plans for what they anticipate doing. Inside the Glass section are 9 separate sections for those panels.
Please participate. While some of this is very modern interpretations, our history is being told in various ways by several different artists. I can’t wait to actually ride the buses and get out to see the art!
