George C. Jones, Jr. is the new Executive Director with Partners for Environmental Justice and will oversee daily operations and work with the board leadership to develop long term plans to grow the organization. George, a native of southeast Raleigh was born and raised in Biltmore Hills and has been a life-long member of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church. His focus will be to improve environmental stewardship and protection of the Walnut Creek Wetland Watershed through community building, social and economic advocacy to advance the mission goals of Partners for Environmental Justice. Over the past 25 years professionally, George has served in leadership roles in the fields of economic and community development, and has extensive experience in nonprofit management, small business advocacy, social enterprise development, and equitable lending services with marginalized communities. As a lifelong learner he is passionate about the gift of community stewardship, organizing strategic partnerships with local governments, educational institutions, trust funds, and corporate stakeholders to build sustainable outcomes that promote social and economic impact. He looks forward to working with allies operating at the intersection of green infrastructure and conservation, equitable development, and with residents and community stakeholders. George holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. He and his wife (Debra) live in Rougemont (NC) and are proud parents of three adult children and three grandchildren. As a true lover of nature, he enjoys digging in the dirt, storytelling around the fire-pit, and fostering land stewardship principles for the next generation of wetland protectors.
