Construction of the wetland center began in July 2008.

The park is part of the Walnut Creek watershed. There are 58 acres of wetlands in the park.

The wetland center opened in September 2009. The park now consists of the Dr. Norman and Betty Camp Education Center and 58 acres of surrounding wetlands and trails.

PEJ works with Wake County Big Sweep to sponsor multiple clean up activities each year to help improve the health of the wetlands and surrounding community.
